    Staff Marine Surveyor – Houston, Texas, USA

    Braemar’s Technical division offers a broad range of complementary adjusting, surveying, engineering, environmental and consultancy services to the marine, offshore, energy, shipping and insurance sectors. We are now looking for a Staff Marine Surveyor to join our team in Houston, Texas.

    The right candidate will carry out the general duties of inspections as required, surveys and examinations of merchant vessels to assess and report on their condition as well as various warranty, casualty and cargo surveys on; ocean going vessels, offshore vessels, barges, tugs, jack up rigs, other mobile offshore structures, port infrastructure and terminals.  Attendance will also be required on salvage and wreck removal projects and as part of wider consultancy work for the shipping industry.

    The successful candidate will have opportunities to travel and work within our operational areas worldwide.  Given the nature of our business, travel may be at very short notice over weekends, public holidays and nights.

    Applicants should have a proven career in the maritime industry, with a minimum qualification of a 1st Class Certificate of Competency, Master Mariner (STCW II/2, Unlimited Oceans), with a Bachelor’s Degree or maritime equivalent in a related field.   The applicant will have prior vessel command experience as Master.

    Previous experience in survey work, either as a class surveyor, insurance surveyor or salvage master, as well as post deep sea experience as a superintendent or fleet manager is highly advantageous to your application.  Any prior expert witness and consulting work is also advantageous.

    Professional and flexible, you must have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal. You must also possess an excellent telephone manner and great attention to detail. An ability to manage your own case load and deliverables is essential.

    The successful applicant will be expected to have an active role in marketing the services of the Technical division to local clients.
