We offer a range of short intensive ports and shipyard familiarisation courses with a specific focus on people working in marine and energy claims and insurance. All of our courses aim to introduce insurance underwriters and claims handlers to the basic technical aspects of damages encountered in marine losses, their surveying, investigating and reporting techniques.

Course summary:
Braemar’s technical division offer a short intensive two day course with the aim of introducing marine insurance professionals to the basic technical aspects of damage encountered in marine losses, their surveying, investigating, reporting techniques and general overview of marine insurance. Participants be given the opportunity to see first hand a ship bunkering facility and vessels at anchor and lay-up and is designed with specific focus for people working in marine claims and insurance.Course objectives:
During the course, participants will be familiarised with the various aspects of ship repair and bunkering operations. The course is designed to provide participants with the basic practical knowledge and background which will assist them during their daily tasks of interpreting surveyor’s reports when dealing with marine claims and insurance. Participants will be given the opportunity to see, at first hand, ship repair facilities in the dry dock and if possible ship under repair and/or construction. We also offer the opportunity to visit one of the world’s premier super-yacht builders and refit facilities.Presentation topics covered during the course:

The course is designed to provide participants with the basic practical knowledge and background which will assist them during their daily tasks of interpreting surveyor’s reports when dealing with marine claims and insurance.Location: Piraeus, Greece
Day 1
- Welcome meeting introduction to local Piraeus Team
- Technical Presentation: introduction to vessels types and familiarisation of Hull and Machinery technical particulars
- Tour of local graving and floating docks at Piraeus
Tour of local repair workshops where participants will get the opportunity of seeing the vessels’ underwater hull sections
Day 2
- Starting the day with a visit to Elefsis Shipyards
- Participants may get the opportunity to tour onboard a Mega Yacht under construction
- Visit to a Perama slipway where participants will be given the opportunity to see the vessel under construction
- Visit to Drapetsona repair zone and guided tour of one of the inter-island ferries and seeing a full active engine room
Day 3
- Presentation: Shipyard Risk Assessment Surveys (The JH 143s)
- Visit to one of the local machinery workshops where participants will be given the opportunity to see engine components under repair
- Opportunity to board a local salvage tug to see the towing and salvage equipment

Dubai Marine and Energy Construction & Repair Yard Course
This is a full, three-day, practical familiarisation course presented by Braemar Technical Services in conjunction with Drydocks World, Dubai. The course encompasses presentations by experienced Marine Surveyors, Energy Loss Adjusters and Ship Repair Professionals and combines close-up tours of the drydocks and workshops of the largest maritime construction & repair facility in the Middle East. The course also includes tours of Dubai Maritime City, with its synchrolift platforms and vessel stacking areas, plus land and waterborne tours of Jebel Ali Port’s container terminal, the largest port in the Middle East.
PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
To provide local & international delegates with first-hand experience of a complex, large-scale, construction and repair yard dealing with mobile offshore units and merchant vessels, combined with container port operation with particular emphasis on the MENA region.
